Niagara Falls is one of the most famous tourist destinations in North America. With more than 1,230 feet (360 m) of water falling on the American and Horseshoe Falls, Niagara is one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world. The falls can be seen from many different perspectives including up close, as well as from across Lake Ontario.

One of the best ways to take in all that Niagara has to offer is by visiting its picturesque villages. Originally founded by the Iroquois people in 1788, Niagara-on-the-Lake today features charming Victorian homes and businesses. Ulysses S. Grant stayed at the Queenston Hotel while commanding a corps during the Battle of Queenston Heights and visited frequently thereafter. As you wander downtown you’ll see numerous examples of Canadian architecture, including churches, banks and restaurants dating back to the 1800s.

Niagara Falls is also famed for its hydroelectric plants and recreation opportunities such as hiking trails and swimming holes. The Maid of the Mist tour boat takes visitors downriver close to both American and Horseshoe Falls for an invigorating experience.

How to get to Niagara Falls

The best way to experience Niagara Falls is by taking a boat trip. You can also drive or hike to the falls. If you’re travelling by car, park at the North American side of the falls and take the Maid of the Mist cruise down the river. The cruise costs around $21 for adults and children younger than 12 are free.

If you want to hike to the falls, several trails will take you from near the base of the falls up to High Rock Springs. The trailhead is located just outside of Niagara on Queen Street in Lewiston. The hike takes around two hours and is definitely challenging, but well worth it when you reach the top.

5120x1440p 329 Niagara Falls Images Weather

5120x1440p 329 Niagara Falls Images weather is much different than the weather in most parts of the United States. The thermometer typically reads below freezing at Niagara Falls while it’s warm outside. This cold temperature is caused by the mist created by the falls. The mist helps to keep the air cool and prevents water droplets from forming on the fall’s surface.

The sun sets behind Niagara Falls during wintertime and it can get fairly dark around the area. Because of this, visitors should bring a flashlight or headlamp if they plan on spending time near the falls at night.

Since Niagara Falls is located in Canada, in wintertime there is typically a lot more snow than we see here in the United States. This snow creates difficult conditions for visitors who are trying to walk or bike around the area.

During summertime, temperatures at Niagara Falls can reach upwards of 100 degrees Fahrenheit! That’s because all that hot air that rises from the falls makes for an incredibly muggy environment. Visitors should make sure to drink plenty of water and stay out of the sun as much as possible when visiting during summertime.
